January 10, 2020

Today my dissertation writing consisted of returning to chapter 3.  Since my IRB process has restructured my research, the methodology is changing.  The weight will be qualitative.  I need to be able to synthesize observations between me and my team to identify, through coding and themes, what is important and relevant.  Content analysis looks like a helpful tool.  Manifest vs. latent.  If I count words, phrases and actions I can objectivize the observations to relate to the emerging themes and codes.  At the same time the observers will bring their own biases and worldview into the observation such that their implicit, unsaid insights can deepen the way in which themes emerge.  I am excited to see how this may pan out.  Time seems to be the enemy.  Balancing family, work and my research.

Starting chapter 4

I have been working on my dissertation for about 8 months.  Still waiting on IRB to go through, but since I upload at the end of March, I'm going to get going on chapter 4.  Per my chair's suggestion, I'll write as if I had the data and I will anticipate possible results based on my Lit Review.  Next on the agenda is reading Sultana's qualitative coding.
